David Hains spent 23 years on the reporter’s side of a microphone, covering everything from simple press conferences to complicated investigative reports. He interviewed master communicators like Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, Arnold Schwarzenegger and many other politicians, celebrities and everyday people.
David also spent three years as one of those people being interviewed when he served as spokesman for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, the 26th largest public school system in America. Here he learned that successfully working with reporters and news organizations required a mix of equal parts of truthfulness and savvy in understanding what reporters were seeking.
His training focuses on the practical aspects of dealing with reporters and includes extensive on-camera work and critiquing of all participants. He has presented the training to individuals and groups in the utility and chemical industries as well as to public school superintendents and principals.
David is the author and narrator of “Ringmaster in a Media Circus,” an audio training recording that teaches people how to effectively deal with the news media in a crisis situations.
